Pulled this from DM news secction Ok- well it has happened. In the immortal words of our server muse Cia-'insertsomethingwittyhere', was bound to happen sooner or later... -In an effort to isolate the intermittent remort skins matter, and in an unrelated issue, purge the player database of deleted toons, I corrupted the server database. Before you ask, YES. I made backup's but somehow, these got corrupt as well. The server continued to crash whenever I loaded them (never use freeware for a man's job). What this means to us- Your Journals are wiped clean, your remort appearance won't work, your Clan Donation Pits are empty. If I were to stand on my head and close one eye, I can see some benefits- the journal changes scheduled for the December Release are now in and I have successfully purged the database files. ;D Seriously though- if you have questions or run into issues let me know. I dont think too much damage was done but some of you may REALLY want your appearances.... Let's see if I can't make it up to you all with a Christmas Present!!! P.S. Since we have a clean DB now- if you want any characters deleted, DO NOT LOG THEM IN and instead send me a PM (or make a public post in the appropriate thread) and I will delete them from the vault. ALSO- I have instituted a Character Purge cycle. Any character who is not active for 6 months will be deleted from the server vault. This pruge will take place this Friday and go back 6 months +, deleting any toon that was not active within the last 6 months.

Due to the fact that I am in South Dakota and at a hotel that does not allow me to get onto Gamespy I am unable to log into any of my characters this week. Can we please pospone the purge for 1 more week so that I will be able to log the chars and verify things before it happens?

I really want my appearance. Tempus can i haz cookie? This causes me some pain, but things happen i suppose. Ah well i'll just have to reroll and specialize in something that isn't two handed and expect to use it in one hand. if there is any way to make me a large creature that'd be bomb diggity, if not i'll just REROLLLLLLLLLLL.

I sympathize, Mardok was supposed to wield Great Sword one handed and can't as a medium.

that's a really bad idea. I know nobody cares what I think and that I havent played in quite a while, but this is just a bad bad idea. as far as I've seen, nobody really quits playing permanently, and most people are glad to see their chars still there if they come back sometime. I've had a few minutes free time today and I popped in to have a look around. I'm not saying I'm gonna start playing like in the good old days when I hung around for 10 or 12 hours per day. but I most definitely didnt make a choice to never play again. if I have time, I' like to be able to pop in and kill a monster or two. however if I would login today and found that all of my chars were missing due to this terrible idea, I would lose all motivation to ever stop by again. I am sure I am not the only one that would feel that way. I dont think redemption can afford to lose any more players, much less due to a silly thing like this. dont know how many space the character files take up but it cant be as much as to outweigh the downsides of deleting them. especially not like this without letting anyone know :S

Great, i just found out that i lost all my 30ish and 40ish characters and a lot of gear i now have only 4 characters. and I'm sure that at least one character that was deleted was logged the same time as those that were left, as i always logged my cleric to see what's new on the server and than i logged others. i stop by the forum at least once a month, but don't play anymore as i don't have a lot of time, but when i could play, there's noone on the server. This announcement could be posted earlier and for longer time and in a public place and not in DM section only and just few days before the chars got deleted. (it could be implanted with the next copy over) as littletall said it looks like all my effort to build my characters is now wasted

The purge cycle I ran was impartial- a set of parameters and off it went. It removed any character older than 6 months from the date it was executed. The reason for this was because we made LOTS of changes to the module. Gear (and characters) stood a good chance that they were either corrupt or invalid and therefore, would not meld well with the new server requirements. I would be willing to make concessions for 1 new character but let the DM Team confer on what this concession would be before we publicly mention it. Sorry mate. This was not personal but a necessary evil. Give me a day or two to respond.

they... stood a good chance? wtf? ? how about letting people know so they could try to log in and SEE if they're actually corrupted or not? and then not delete the ones that arent? how can you just arbitrarily delete chars by such a horrible criteria as time of last login? those chars could have been (or, were) remorts, they could have (and did) carry a lot of valuable loot! even if something was wrong, as long as the char was able of being logged in, at least something could have been saved. if gear was changed then it should have been replaced by new versions! if the changes prevented remorts to be logged in, new ones should be given to replace them! its not our fault that changes have been made and we (the players) shouldnt be punished because of it! going "fuck your months of work, we changed something, start over" is not the appropriate method here! I know it has been applied a lot of times already but at least then we were informed about it a long time before it happened so we could make arrangements, trade in stuff, and so on. this wasnt necessary evil - it may have been necessary to delete some chars, but what actually happened was way beyond necessary evil. and nobody said it was personal, I'm sure everybody lost their chars, a certain number of them unnecessarily. in fact this got me thinking - I have 4 chars now, and it seemed a bit low at first because I know I was planning on making at least 2 new chars back then but I am unsure if I actually got around to making them, so I just assumed that I didnt. but I just remembered I also had a pally of about level 30. it is true that I havent logged him in for quite a while longer than my other chars, but guess what? that was because I was using it to store all my gear and he became too encumbered to be playable (I was waiting for boxes to be implemented so I could transfer the gear to another char with enough str). so that means like half of my gear is gone.... and not the shitty gear but some of the best pieces I had, including boss gear, because I didnt have a char that could use some stuff so I was saving them up for the chars I planned on making! great..... what a great way to get boned without even realizing it :@

I made the post a week ago mate. Five posts up is the quote.
The corruptions I am referring to are as follows:
- Gear no longer offered - Remorts that no longer worked or were offered
There is no way you could know what gear or levels were corrupt, it would have to be the DM Team that would need to reference your toon against the base to see what was what.
Had the decision been to make a post and wait to see who might eventually appear to read it, and coordinate with the DM Team to remove said gear and de-level characters so they complied with the server rules, we'd still be in the same situaiton we are now- that is to say, you would have a toon with quite probably no uber gear and (possibly) no levels.
There is a lot more I could say in an effort to help you understand what and why this particular position was taken, but I suspect it would fall on deaf ears. Suffice to say that most of your concerns seem to be focused on gear and the time invested to build the charaters youre missing (which according to my records is 2). In the response I made to Jacko, I indicated that compensation would be made after a discussion with the DM Team occured and that the exact nature of that would be posted in a few days.
If you know ANYTHING about this DM Team and this server its that we try to be fair, we look out for the players and we are human. I cannot say that you personally will feel justified with whatever the compensation is but I am SURE that anything else that is missing can EASILY be reclaimed should you decide to frequent the lands of Dominia again. - XP levels are higher than ever - Party levels are larger - Bosses are free to all players (no need for a DM summons) - QP are given with quests

dude that post was made somewhere where none of us has access, I assume the DM forum. if bhale wouldnt quote your post, nobody would even know about it. even now when we try to follow the link in the quote that links to the original message, it says we dont have permission to access that area. so that is NOT a public place. posting on wednesday that purge will happen on friday is also NOT soon enough, even if it would be in a public place. given the low activity, a month's notice wouldnt be too much to ask, nor would it be too long to wait. whatever was no longer offered should be replaced by whatever was implemented instead of it, or something similar, or in case of gear, maybe gold value should be given instead (or maybe qp or something for the most valuable boss gear?). if there is a lot more info that would help players understand why this was necessary, we're definitely interested in hearing it. in fact, why not explain it right from the start and avoid the complaints? most of my concerns are also focused on the unreasonable criteria of last login. how could last login be a reasonable measure of which chars are corrupted? who is to say that the chars that someone logged in 5 months and 29 days before the purge arent corrupted or have corrupted gear on them? who is to say that chars that havent been logged in for 10 months do have corrupted gear on them? basically what this means is that if I (for example, applies to everyone else too) would happen to log into my chars on thursday, they wouldnt be deleted? I'm missing 2 chars? quite possibly, I said I dont remember if I got around to starting the ones I had planned, apparently I started one (would you mind telling me his name?). the other one is my pally, which as I already said, held 50% of all my gear, including some most valuable items. as for your response to jacko, you mentioned 1 character. he lost 7. excuse us for not being too happy. we can wait for the DM team to discuss this but past experience shows that it wont make much of a difference. but fine, maybe we'll be surprised this time - after all, I havent been following the server or the forum for quite a long time and I'm not even sure who is in the DM team these days, much less what your policy is. I did however read all the posts yesterday that the forum marked as new since my last visit, but I havent seen any announcements regarding changes in the DM team, nor any mentions of the changes you list in this post. having bosses around is definitely a nice thing.... (but then again if everyone has as many boss gear as possible, its not that special anymore ). though as you're probably aware, there's basically nobody on the server. and if me and jacko team up, we can handle the easier bosses, but 2 players arent enough to get the gear that we previously got on bigger and harder boss runs. as for the stuff that can be easily reclaimed should we decide to frequent the lands of dominia again - well that's exactly the problem. we've frequented the lands of dominia very much so far, but all that frequenting has now been wasted. we dont have that much time anymore so frequenting to that extent is not an option anymore. I would very much like to pop on sometimes for a few minutes and continue developing my chars, but in no way have I got enough time to start over with 0 xp, 0 gold and 0 items, and 0 players around to speed up the "reclaiming" process.

strange that you don't have access to that thread, were you logged in at the time you tried to look at it? I'd like to figure out the problem here, because that area is supposed to show up on the top of the forums for everyone. It's the public announcement section of the forums. redemptionmod.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=DMAnnouncements
