With the spare time I have on my hands that I can't login to RD. IE - work, I've been putting together a RD-based sister forum. It's basically place for me (and others), to provide their advice, builds and other funky whatnot to the RD community at large. enter Karma's Corner. It's still in early beta, but hey it's there. Following will be advice on how to build characters, farm gold and items, taunt the dm's etc etc, plus of course something some of you seem so horrible on, step by step character builds Anyways, use it, don't. It's just there for some documentation and a way for me to ramble away all the thoughts going through my head.

An RD strategy guide not a bad idea. Been wondering if anyone has ever tried to.

As far as I'm aware it has not been done before. It's a large effort for a small player base. But I have nothing better to do at work, other than actually working I suppose. -scoffs- Besides it would appear from early votes this might actually be useful, and we all know I live to give

I have to say for melee builds i am at a loss for where to start. It'd be nice to at least look something over and go from there. Not to mention as for where zones are i have no clue because when i played before i cheated and just used portals. =P

Any build has to be tweeked to fit the server since so many servers have customized spells, gear, etc. , but here's a good spot to get a starting point for build ideas. nwn.bioware.com/underdark/character_builds.htmlA couple of my favorite melee builds are the Fighter 7/WM 7/DwD 26 and the Bard 18/RDD 10/PM 12. The F/WM/DD is a pure STR build with great dmg soak. The B/RD/PM is a mix of STR and CHA (for bard song bonuses) the immunities of RDD and PM make it an impressive defense build and the STR bonuses plus bard songs make for good AB and damage as well.

I applaud the efforts though most builds are kept secrets by the clans. I prefer to see a balanced PvP rather than a one way slaughter.

This is where I let my secrets save but a few fly my good man, as I encourage all to do. And Ben, the bioware builds blow chunks, even the exalted sorcerer requires some fairly significant modifications to be decent.

The exalted as listed on the bioware page is still better than the vast majority of builds you see on RD. Like I said it's a place to get an idea of how to build, many of those builds are completely useless on a high magic server like RD, but they can get you thinking about tricks to adapting a good build for RD. If you copy any of those builds (save the exalted) exactly and try them RD they will not be much better than taking random feats and classes at random levels, but reading through the builds will give you an idea of how and why certain combinations work.

I admit for the critique value it's worth a look. I also agree the exalted is better than most builds on RD. Hence the forums this topic revolves around. There are far better critiques, and far better builds, that are viable, and truly, designed, for RD. In the next few months i plan to realise a good portion of my secrets upon the server. Not to go ego-tripping, but that spits (i'm being good) on anything bioware has to offer, as well as most of what RD has to offer.
Also, I feel it necessary to mention, almost all the combinations provided in the bioware builds actually show you the wrong way of looking at character building. But each to their own.

Have you developed that build we had been toiling over? 120+ AC, no spells, along with ~90 AB, also no spells. Fun, albeit tricky. Wasn't it something along the lines of 9 Bard, 16 Shadowdancer, and 15 Ranger. Improved knockdown and toughness feats are a must to boost the AC at later levels, but don't actually take the feats until 30+, otherwise you get into diminishing returns on the overall health cap. Weapon focuses can go towards whatever you feel necessary, completely unrelated to the build. I'd recommend going with heavy crossbow, best base top-end damage. Great for those lovely 16-20 x3 crits. With Rapid Reload and Ironguts, the attacks per round keep par with a monk/fighter build, which is excellent.

I've been thinking about a monk10/sd5/wm25 build. Pretty easy to operate--per hit dmg is not great but it will get a ton of hits on most PCs and about half the bosses.
High 60s AB, 10 attacks, crit @ 15/x3 with kamas, Epic Dodge, AC in low 70s and of course there's the HiPS.

I know, old friend. Hopefully that will help some wayward souls, though. I only aim to please.
