Uber spells are over rated. Makes things too easy- Example- Greater Ruin Intially, 35d6 positive damage (min 35, max 210 regardless of level). Epic casters (level 20) or Pale Masters (level 15) with 25 ranks in Spell Craft could cast this for either the minimum or maximum damage. Currently, 1d20 per 2 caster levels. So a level 20 Epic caster would have 10 min and 200 max damage while a level 40 caster could net 20 min and 400 max damage. Both cases still carry the same fortitude save DC and damage (DC20 + ability mod for 1/2). Clearly, this change increased considerably the potential damage output but at the cost of its damage output being contigent upon the caster level and a wider random die roll (d20 versus d6, so you would have to roll a 6 or higher with the current changes to net the same damage initially provided by a max roll before the change). As with ALL spell changes- things had to be modified to accomodate play on RD. We have many, many items that allow for resistances or immunities and as well there are the saves to consider. There are also many NWN exploites that we wanted to close the gap on. In short, I would argue that though the spells seem 'weaker' (rather they may not pack as much punch initially), they are more refined to the class and level casting them. I would also agrue that higher levels of a specific class should benefit more from a spell than one of a lower class 'exploiting' a spell,....
